The approved method we use to protective raise monarchs starting rearing in May, June, up to July 15th takes approximately 15 minutes  of involvement every few days  for  30 days to complete. The monarchs will move through  their development stages on their own as long as you supply them with  milkweed stems as described  in the videos below. We ask you not to START  raising monarchs  after July 15th so the fourth "migration to Mexico" generation of monarchs develop in the wild to assure they have all the unique traits needed to survive the long trip.

Monarchs in Action

Children gather outside the mobile butterfly sanctuary

For more than 35,000 Texas children, learning about monarchs has come to life through our mobile butterfly sanctuary. Seeing every stage of the monarch life cycle up close inspires young nature lovers to care for these remarkable pollinators. We bring the sanctuary to schools and community events.

Texas House resolution recognizing monarch education work

Our monarch education work was recognized with a resolution presented on the Texas House floor and unanimously passed during the 84th Texas Legislature. We also take part in Texas State Comptroller monarch task force meetings, sharing our perspective on threatened and endangered species.

Students learn about monarch butterflies during a school visit

For more than 20 years, we’ve partnered with Texas schools to bring monarch learning directly to students. Our mobile sanctuary features plants and monarchs at every life stage, giving children a close-up look at nature’s transformation. We’ve welcomed more than 35,000 children and provided plants for classroom projects—creating memorable, hands-on science experiences right on campus.

Colorful monarch butterfly with orange and black wings

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center recognized our partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife and First Lady Laura Bush to promote monarch conservation. We’re proud to help more people discover how they can support these remarkable butterflies.

Craig the Butterfly Man beside a sunflower

Craig represented Texas in the International Tent at the Texas Outdoor Expo, hosted by Texas Parks & Wildlife. It was a wonderful opportunity to share the fascinating world of monarchs with visitors.

Monarch caterpillars on a green plant

We share a simple, nature-centered hatchery approach for observing monarchs at home while protecting their vulnerable development stages. With thoughtful care, people can witness the life cycle up close and release healthy butterflies into the wild. Our goal is to make monarch learning engaging and inspire care for pollinators and the ecosystems they support.
